I totally agree. Everything at Google revolves around their adsense content network. I have a feeling that this their ad program will not be as effective as social media marketing is becoming within a year or so though!

The payoff for Google is two-fold:

1. They get real-time search
2. They get another popular venue to place Adsense

Payoff for Twitter, Biz and Ev get very, very rich yet again.

Strong precedent and logic for this acquisition to happen and I think it's just a matter of time until it occurs. I real mystery is not about Twitter/Google, the real mystery is who buys Facebook. Microsoft? Likely contender. They are always playing catchup to Google it seems. They certainly aren't winning at the search game.

Conversely, Google is not winning at the "open social" game either. Facebook, with 200+ members and growing at a phenomenal pace, is becoming quite literally the operating system for the new web. That's a winning strategy for Microsoft if ever I saw one.

Both these behemoths have more than enough capital to pay Williams, Stone and/or Zuckerberg any amount that would be asked. Money is not an issue. It's just a waiting game at this point.

It's about time. I have said in my previous comments here and elsewhere that it's just a matter of time before Google attempts to buy Twitter. But yes, you are right - it's a bit late in the game for them, especially with the value of Twitter going through the roof. I am sure they will pay much more this time. Who knows - this could be a sale that will be more than YouTube.com. Who knows? Depends on whether the Twitter boys are desperate for money or not.
