			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Ahhh, I&#8217;m back now from a great vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and just as I got done complaining about the extra 24 hours it took me to get home after a fiasco with United Airlines, this great example of the power of social media marketing shows up on You Tube.  Now, if I had musical talent like this guy, this would be a great way to gain exposure and rectify a situation of poor customer service.</p>
<p>A little background here.  United Airlines broke this musician&#8217;s $3,500 Taylor guitar, and after a year of wrangling with the airline over the claim, United ultimately decided to deny the claim.  Dave Carroll, the musician affected by this tragedy, promised them that he would write and release 3 songs and videos as a result, and what a shock wave this has created.  Below are 2 videos, the first is the CNN news coverage of the situation that came out 3 days after the video&#8217;s release, and below that is the actual &#8220;United Breaks Guitars&#8221; video.  Bottom line here is that in this day and age if you don&#8217;t appreciate your customers, you run the risk of having a PR nightmare like this emerge.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Social Media Marketing for Business is much different than the &#8220;old school&#8221; traditional media marketing with advertising.  The fact is, businesses need to share and interact with their customers and prospects in order to achieve optimal returns from their efforts.  Lets not forget the importance of good marketing principals like follow-up and drip marketing, but needless to say, lead generation is now happening more often than not by sharing information and by referral online.</p>
<p>When a blogger writes an article that people like, they share it on other social media sites, email it to their friends, and the word spreads based solely on the sharing of information.  Social Media Marketing for businesses is different: <strong>it is not a hard sell</strong>, it is providing some information, defining your company as the expert in their industry, and encouraging interaction with your visitors.  Now, I feel it&#8217;s also important to have a funnel where people can get more information, such as the opt-in that I have placed to the right offering the free video series, but the important thing is that you are reading this information right now because you are interested, and not because a commercial came on while you were watching your favorite TV show.</p>
<p><strong>Traditional Media is Interruption Based&#8230;</strong></p>
<p>To demonstrate this, I found this great video that summarizes the conversations that businesses are not having with their consumers, and what is likely going to happen with traditional media in the future.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://www.Twitter.com" target="_blank"><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-255" title="Twitter Logo" src="http://www.turbosocialmedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/twitter_logo_header.png" alt="Twitter Logo" width="155" height="36" /></a>Twitter has been an extremely hot topic in the past few months, especially as their rapid growth has been taking place, an influx of celebrities, Fortune 500’s, and everyday internet users have begun to embrace it.  As someone who is a frequent user (although not as much as some of the “obsessed”) I found it interesting to find an article about Twitter on the front page of the business section of the Wall Street Journal (yeah, yeah, I know, I’m a social media guy, but I still read the newspaper…).  The point of this is that Twitters usership has gone from 6 Million to more than 35 Million users since the beginning of February.  For most companies, this type of rapid growth would mean great things for their revenues…but since Twitter has no revenue model, this is really just causing a headache, server troubles, and the question is, when can they leverage what so many of our clients are leveraging in order to make money.</p>
<p>Many Web 2.0 tools like Twitter use an ad-revenue model to pull the money they need to operate.  According to Stone on Monday, May 18, 2009:</p>
<blockquote><p>“ Twitter would remain free for consumers and businesses, and that the company&#8217;s main focus at the moment is developing new features for commercial users, such as &#8220;lightweight analytics&#8221; and a directory of commercial accounts that would verify that businesses on Twitter are legitimate.”</p></blockquote>
<p>They also were contemplating talks with cell phone carries to see if they could create revenue sharing opportunities with them.  The thing is, there are a lot of companies out there who are making a lot of money by using Twitter so spread the word on their campaigns.  A lot of our clients here are using twitter as a great way to send out the links to their latest blog posts, promote events, and generally spread the word about their offerings.  So if business owners and marketers can figure out how to use the tool to make money, then maybe Twitter should take the same approach… After all, with the power to now reach 35 million users instantly, how much better could it possibly be for them?</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I rarely write about big businesses leveraging Social Media Marketing, but I just couldn&#8217;t resist today.  Large corporations like KFC are being challenged by much smaller chains like El Pollo Loco.  For those of you who do not know these companies, both of them serve chicken and associated &#8220;family meal&#8221; type products, but KFC has 11,000 restaurants and El Pollo Loco has 418 restaurants.  So bottom line here is that a company that is 4% the size of its much larger competitor is being challenged head on&#8230;and winning.</p>
<p>Lets start by showing the beginning of El Pollo Loco&#8217;s Challenge of KFC, this one was a TV Commercial:</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Today I was browsing around and as usual, the mainstream media is picking up Ford&#8217;s focus on Social Media Marketing.  So, I guess I&#8217;ll just start clarifying that our approach with social media marketing is all about small to medium sized businesses, who are looking for the edge in terms of expanding their marketing.  Honestly, marketing for a small or medium sized business is so different than that of a Fortune 500 who hires a large creative agency to make 30 second TV clips that just do branding and positioning of their products, its almost a shame that networks like Fox produces content like this video:</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">Unlike Ford, who as you can see here is still questioning whether or not their investment is paying off, our clients are telling us about what great response they are getting from their Social Media Marketing campaigns.  The key here is consistency, and that&#8217;s really where a Boutique Social Media Marketing agency like us comes in.  We are all about strategy, interacting with prospects, and creating open conversations.  To be quite frank with you, I hope that you leave me a comment below telling me how you feel about this.  Especially since small business marketing is so different than that of traditional media.  Again, I will just mention that finding real success in social media like my client <a href="http://www.turbosocialmedia.com/zerona-laser-lipo-dr-troy-don-leverages-social-media-marketing/" target="_blank">Dr. Troy Don</a>, IS MEASURABLE, and unlike Ford, he can tell  you that the move into social media marketing is a profitable venture.  So, I feel a bit like I&#8217;m plugging my services, but to be honest, I would be so happy if more small businesses just went out and participated on their own, I know its time consuming, but its a great way to build your &#8220;brand&#8221;, establish credibility, increase your visibility, and best of all generate sales leads!</p>
