Is it better to do Social Media Marketing In House or Outsource it?

Many companies and practices like to try to keep many of their resources in house, while I know others that like to outsource everything they can. Personally, I am a big fan of the Tim Ferriss (Author of NY Times Best-Seller, The Four Hour Work Week) philosophy of outsourcing parts of my business. However, when it comes to outsourcing, it is incredibly important to be critical of what you choose to outsource, as well as the company or person that you are outsourcing it to.

One thing that I outsource is my bookkeeping. Many other companies find someone in house to do this, but for me, this was not something that I wanted to have as my responsibility, especially since it is vital to the business. I found a great company, The Sum of All Numbers, that not only keeps all of our books, but also has a meeting with us once a month to review what they’ve found and help us out with our cash flow, setting aside money for estimated taxes, and letting us know any red flags. They are an excellent company to outsource that part of your business to.

So let me get to the point. Social Media Marketing is one of those things that many companies might think that they can do in-house, and for some of them, this might be a successful choice. For the majority of companies, however, finding a company who specializes in this to handle the strategy, development, and execution of all the necessary parts of their social media marketing campaigns is a better choice. We have many companies and practices who have us handle their social media marketing and are enjoying all of the benefits of increased traffic and visibility without it getting in the way of their daily routines. After all, most of you have better things to spend your time doing (like running the rest of your business!)

If you have a good plan and good grasp of social media you should be able to do it in-house without many problems.

    • Hey Gavin,
I totally agree with you, the largest problem for a lot of our clients is knowing how to make it work and staying consistent! But as always, having a plan to start with is incredibly important!
