I was playing around on my computer the other day and came across a cool little plug-in on Firefox titled “Surf Canyon.” Surf Canyon is a add-on tool that makes searches on Search engines much easier than they were before. According to Microsoft, “People search for 11 minutes on average before finding what they’re looking for, and half abandon searches without getting that far.” This means that many search engines are so cluttered with information, it can often be a little difficult to find exactly what you are looking for.
Once you Download Surf Canyon you will notice something a little different with all of your searches, there is now a little bulls-eye next to the title of every search entry. By clicking on this it bring up all relevant data on all Search pages! What this means is, is when you type in your search query and are given thousands of results, you can click the bulls-eye on one of the results that is relevant to what you are actually looking for (let’s face it, when you search for something, not everything that comes up is applicable to what you are looking for), a list will appear below that result that pulls up all the search results (as far back as page 100 in the search results), thus making it easier to find what you are looking for.
Surf Canyon is really on to something here as is a fantastic idea. It is ideas such as this that often times become staples in the development of different Search Engines. I would not be surprised if in the next few months Google issues this as a standard in their search results, making all search results indexed to find much easier, based on what you are searching for
