I was reading the official Google blog the other day and I came across an article that highlighted another great step forward on improving the search engine: Google sidewiki.

The sidewiki is a sidebar feature that allows people to comment and leave notes on various web pages. This allows you to contribute to other pages and help others out. You can give reviews, add content, thoughts or ideas, or just input links with more content to help prove points put forth by others.

Check out this video put out by Google on the sidewiki:

Google has always been at the forefront of Internet innovations and they are continuously proving this day after day. With this new Internet novelty, Social Media takes another large step forward as people are now able to interact and help others through their favorite web pages.

I surely understand why many webmasters don’t like SideWiki and fear that competitors will use it to add comments to your site that will be as helpful as the comments that graffiti artists add to bathroom walls.

You should monitor the SideWiki comments on your own site(s) closely and act promptly on negative comments. There are now tools available that can monitor SideWiki comments for you, and alert you when new comments are posted.

      Hi Brian,

Thanks so much for that comment. It is a great idea to be aware of what is going on, on your sites so that they are not run over by negative comments and nonsense that people choose to graffiti your site with. And thank you so much for the link to that tool as well, as I am sure that will become extremely useful to us and anyone else that uses the Sidewiki.

      best,
      Zack
